Spring is at last in the air, the perfect time to be packing a flavour punch with the wonders of fermented food and drinks.
Following the success of Superfoods and Dark Skies tours in January and February. Folks are fizzing to know more about fermentation. Happy to oblige Bowland & Bay is combining these micro masterclasses from chefs, foragers, makers and bakers into one of the healthiest food tours ever.
Tasting good and doing good – from collagen in bone broth, anti-oxidants in wine & chocolate, brain boosting potential of organic mushrooms, to the gut biome powerhouses of sourdough to sauerkraut, kimchi to kombucha.
Follow you gut with Bowland & Bay, artisan foodie adventures.
I will have more exciting tour news in the May newsletter – all NEW Ultimate Foodie Tours coming soon for summer & autumn 2024.
Business to Business Foodie Adventures
Want a business to business event with a foodie difference? Bowland & Bay can tailor make tours from 4-24 folks throughout the year.
James booked Bowland & Bay for 7 guests, all different business clients, in February. We arranged routes for pick ups, discussed overnight accommodation, dietary requirements and take home taster bags (available from £10+ each). The feedback from folks was they loved the day out, a chance to network and enjoy the many independent food businesses across this beautiful part of the world.
Bowland & Bay is also running events for schools & colleges, PR and marketing teams, large family & friends parties. More than happy to discuss bespoke foodie tours – please call Katie 07476 001539 or email hello@bowlandandbay.co.uk for more information.
Lost Legends Rediscovered
Since starting this journey back in 2021, I have had numerous guests ask me to write a book. So on International Women’s Day 8th March, I thought I’d share the news that my book is underway! After a good 12 months deliberating what to write about, I’m up and running, my early hours are now spent researching & typing.
Title is a work in progress, so any ideas gratefully received.
Topics will be our food legends, tied to the seasons, the landscapes and the wild variety of fantastic things to do, all year round. With food guide notes across Lancashire & the Southern Lakes, alongside dozens of amazing recipes/tips from our chefs, farmers, guests and makers. To recreate a taste of Bowland & Bay at home.
Lost legends will be rediscovered, our food & landscape will bound together and you’ll never be lost for a foodie day out in Bowland & Bay. Hoping to be ready to publish near the end of 2024 – I will keep you all posted.
Speaking of legends, I like so many others, am thrilled that Mrs Kirkham’s cheese has been given the all clear. Graham and the team are back doing what they do best – making the last raw cheese in Lancashire.
Last Saturday I bumped into Graham with Joe Schneider of Stichelton Dairy, another legendary raw cheese maker, up North supporting Graham at the local markets. Despite the darkest of winters for the Kirkhams (and incorrect reporting by some press) good food folks are supporting their fight back. No food issues at all were found in any of their product. More on our glorious cheese heritage and how we can protect it will be in the book.
In the meantime with Easter approaching Ruth Kirkham (Graham’s mum and THE Mrs Ks) kindly made me some seasonal Goosnargh cakes. Which I took to the local farming women Agricolae meeting. It was an absolute pleasure to deliver a talk to over 90 local women, on how visiting farms is such a unique part of the artisan food tour experience. These little caraway cakes (see pic) brought back memories for many and created new ones for young female farmers across the room. The magic of food passed across generations. Cannot wait to ask Ruth for this delicious legacy recipe.
